About Ricky and his Substack Journal
Hi, I’m Ricky Browne. This website is my journal – for articles relating mainly to personal growth and development.
Here you’ll find thoughts on creativity, self-improvement, and the messy, honest process of building a meaningful life. Some of it’s polished, some of it’s raw, and all of it is me trying to stay real while putting things into the world.
In the menu, you’ll see links to my other projects – books, apps, and the random things I’ve made over the years. I’m not a guru with all the answers – just a bloke who’s spent two decades learning (and unlearning) how to build better habits, finish creative projects, and live with purpose after some pretty chaotic times.
In the first half of 2025, I released four books – with more on the way, some of which I started as far back as four years ago. For me, writing isn’t just about “finishing products” – it’s about leaving a trail of thoughts, experiments, and stories that might spark something in someone else.
A bit about me
I live in rural New South Wales, Australia, with my wife Liz and our two kids, Grace and Will. After years of battling addiction and mental health struggles, I’ve built a life around writing, creating, and trying to be useful to others. I’m a self-taught coder, author of 20+ books, and a relentless maker of quirky projects – from productivity tools to absurd humor books.
I care deeply about personal growth, creativity, and helping people think differently about life. When I’m not writing, I’m probably drawing weird birds, tinkering with new ideas, or getting roped into games by my kids.
If my work has helped, annoyed, inspired, or confused you – I’d genuinely love to hear from you. You can reach me at: ricky [at] rickybrowne [dot] com.
